Corton Charlemagne – Grand Cru

TERROIR
The vineyard of Corton-Charlemagne, located on the Côte de Beaune, produces one of the most elegant and fine white wine of Burgundy. The vineyard spreads over the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses, on beautiful clay-limestone soils. Corton is a contraction of cort , a Latin word meaning “royal domaine” and Otton, in reference to Otto I, the king of Germany of the 10th Century. In those times, Burgundy was not yet part of France, and Otto I was the owner of these vines. Charlemagne was also a former owner of part of this vineyard, until he gave it to the Church in 775.
