DOMAINE LA LYRE IN COTES-DU-RHONE

The Domaine la Lyre is a beautiful Domaine of 45 hectares (99 acres) located in Pouzilhac, a charming village near Uzès and the Pont du Gard in the South of France. The entire Domaine is cultivated under organic farming and produces Côtes-du-Rhône wines, respecting nature, tradition and the local terroir. The Domaine is bathed by sunlight all year long thanks to the Mediterranean climate of the region, and also benefits from fresh mountain breezes originating in the Massif Central. The vineyard is located on hillsides at an ideal altitude around 250 meters high. The terroir of the Domaine is mainly limestone clay, the soils also contains many stones. This is a typical Côtes du Rhône terroir.

DOMAINE DE LA LYRE – COTES-DU-RHONE

The village of Pouzilhac is located along the National road 86, which is drawn on the path of the Ancient Roman road linking the cities of Nimes on the South coast to Albas in the North. The first documents mentioning viticulture on the village date back to the 17th Century. The Domaine la Lyre takes his name from the old gate built in the 19th Century, which were decorated with a heavy iron Lyre. The red wines are made from Syrah and Grenache. Our grapes are harvested only when they achieve maximum ripeness, and fermented in concrete vats. Grapes for the red wine are fully destemmed before the winemaking, which usually lasts for 20 days. During the maceration, we use rack and return and pumping over on a regular basis to extract a maximum of aromas, structure and colour.

 

TYPICAL COTES-DU-RHONE TERROIR

45 HECTARES

The maturation lasts for around 5 months in tank before bottling. Thanks to our precise and thorough work in the vineyard and the cellar, the wines of Domaine la Lyre are rich with very intense aromas and a fresh elegance and smooth tannins. The white wine of the Domaine is produced on a small part of the vineyard, on a calcareous soil planted with Grenache blanc, Ugni blanc and viognier. The grapes are pressed directly upon their arrival in the cellar and then fermented in vats, with cold racking and monitored fermentation temperatures.
